DIY Wall Art

I have been getting a little tired of looking at the bare walls in my house, so little by little I am making different things to decorate.  I started with my bedroom, I wanted something different and unique and that would match the colors in there.

I started off with a blank 16 x 20 canvas, luckily I had several of these in my craft closet.  The only thing that I had to buy was one of the colors of paint, which cost me $1.15.  I used painters tape to make the design and used a gift card to get all the bubbles out from the tape if there was any.

Since I have a large area I made three pictures to hang above the bed.  I didn't want them to be uniform, I wanted them all different.

Then the paining began.  I just used a sponge brush to paint the canvases.  It took 2 to three coats of paint to get the colors to be just right.

Here are all three canvases after 2 coats, 3 for the middle, of paint.  After they were almost dry I painted the sides, which I really should have done first.  I will definately remember that for any others that I may make.

The colors I used are Lilac, Espresso Bean, and Rainy Day Gray.

Here they are after they dried and I removed the tape.  They aren't perfect, there were a few places that the tape came up and paint got under.  I was just going to let it go, but my ocd kicked in and I had to get the white paint out and fix it.

Here is the finished project.  I am very happy with the way they turned out and for me to only spend $1.15 out of pocket for it was even better.  The whole project only took 2 hours from start to hanging them.  Thank goodness I was able to use supplies that I had gotten from family to make this.

Easy Glass Etching

I have seen a lot of cute personalized glass pieces and decided that I could probably do something like that too.  Once I finally found the glass etching cream I played with some cheaper items until I actually felt comfortable with the whole process.  Before I got my silhouette, I just made a few sets of monogrammed glasses for gifts, but now the possibilities are endless.
After a little research I figured out how to cut contact paper using my silhouette cameo,  instead of using all my vinyl on my glass etching projects.  It works perfectly for me, at least so far.

Here is my new dish soap bottle, after seeing them all over pinterest I knew I had to make one...

And I couldn't stop there so I personalized the jar that I keep my doggies treats in...

Lastly I etched and personalized this pyrex dish using the the borders set by Jennifer Wambach, which is the shape featured in the Weekly Shape Challange on the Silhouette Blog.  I love all the borders and this is probably just one of the many projects I will make using them, I already have some other ideas I am working on.

Today's Goodies...

I am always wanting to make something, and while reading the Silhouette blog I came across their weekly shape challenge.  The doily making set that is this weeks shape is great.  It can be used for so many projects, but I was being a little selfish and wanted to make something for me.
I wanted to make some new notepads with some bright tropical colors: pink, yellow, green, and blue.  I always like to keep notepads in my purse.  These are what I came up with...

This notepad measures 6x3.  I used the bigger doily, but I sized down the whole graphic to fit what I was wanting to do, and wrapped it around the cover of the notepad.  I added a quote box also.

This notepad measures 5x3.  I used the smaller flowers in alternating colors, and added matching eyelets to them.  Of course I added a quote box to it too.  I think on the next set I will have my monogram in the quote box instead.

Welcome Sign and Post

Being the Pinterest addict that I am I kept seeing the DIY welcome sign and knew that I had to have one for my front porch.    My hubby is anti-tool anything, so lets just say that it was a challenge for me to complete this project, but I did and I am so proud of the results.

I had to go out and buy all the wood and a hand saw, we had nothing but a drill here.  With all the wood I bought, wasn't lucky enough to find scraps, but I will be able to make another post to go around my pool area when it is completed.

Next time I will have a real saw to cut the wood, I already told hubby he was buying me one for a gift, no more hand sawing for me!

Here is the sign on my front porch and some flowers to brighten it up...

Wall Art

Since moving we really haven't decorated the walls, so I thought that I would start making them some things to hang or set out in their rooms.

I made this for my horseback rider using the colors of her saddle pads...

And I made this for my runner with her school colors...

I have started in a wall in each of their rooms dedicated to their sport.  Hopefully I can get those finished in the next couple of days and post the finished walls.

Wedding Gifts

My friend's niece got married this past weekend and she wanted me to make something personalized for her.  This is what I made for her using my silhouette...

I found a really cute frame to put it in.

Then the mother of the bride decided she wanted something to give to her on her big day, so we came up with this...

Since this was sized 12 x 12, I was able to get a shadow box frame that this looked great in.

My friend's daughter saw the gift and she wanted one too do I made this for her...

My Early Birthday Present

I have been talking about the Silhouette for a while, and my hubby knew how much I wanted one so he gave me it for an early birthday present.  He surprised me with the Silhouette Cameo, some vinyl, and tools for it also.

It took about 10 minutes for me to get it figured out, I love it.  I will share some of the things that I have made so far.
